Find Out About Touch
A brief history of the Touch
Touch (also known as Touch Rugby or Touch Football) is a variant of rugby league organized under the government of International Touch Federation.
It is very easy to learn, the necessary equipment is minimal (sports shoes / boots with crampons - depending on the playing field, shirt and lot) and can be played without fear of injury - physical contacts are almost non-existent because the touch in this sport have to be to be made with minimum force.
The basic rules of this sport were made in 1960 by the South Sydney Junior Rugby League Club.
The game is usually played between two teams of 6 players. Depending on the competition, this number can be changed by the organizers because often these competitions are more social than competitive. As a diversity, besides the men's and women's teams, there are mixed teams. An interesting rule specifies that for mixed teams are composed of 3 boys and 3 girls but at any moment of the game they are not allowed to be on the field more than 4 and less than 2 girls.
The duration of a Touch match is 40 minutes (two halves of 20 minutes each) with a break of 5 minutes.
A World Cup of Touch is also organized. The inaugural edition of the Touch World Cup took place in 1988 in Gold Coast, Australia.
Our friends from Touch Hamburg introduced us to the mysteries of this sport, to whom we thank this way.
